Ruby Pounds the Pavement to Lose Weight [Jul. 16th, 2009|03:18 pm]

ooking for some inspiration to get in shape?

Try tuning in to Ruby, Style's hit reality show about Ruby Gettinger's battle with obesity.

"One day after watching, I was like, 'I need to go to the gym,'" recalls Molly Sullivan, 42, a human resources worker from Camarillo, Calif. "Ten days later, I joined a gym and now we're four months later and I'm losing weight."

And how's it going for Molly?

Molly has shed 41 pounds! So it was no surprise that she was among the the hundreds of people who came out yesterday morning to join Ruby (see photo above) on the Los Angeles stop of her nationwide "Walk Across America" tour.

"I saw these women crying on Oprah, talking about how they never went out of their homes," Ruby told us. "They're fighting the same thing I'm fighting, but I've always gone out my home. I was 716 pounds and I lived my life no matter what."

Ruby recently heard from one such woman who started riding a bike after she saw her doing it. "She said these kids were making fun of her so she said, 'I'm not going to do this anymore,'" Ruby said. "But then she thought about it and said, 'Yes, I am,' because she heard what I said, that they'll eventually shut up. She said they did shut up and now they're her friends!"

Intro Post [Mar. 14th, 2009|11:09 am]

[mood |determineddetermined]

I joined Curves about a month ago and have tried to go 3x a week.  Often, I make it twice.  Still, that's better than not going, so I'm not going to beat myself over it.  I go alone, but I prefer it that way since I go right after working with people who generally drive me nuts and Curves is a nice way to release some pent up "energy".  I'm not particularly fond of the Curves leader who tries to "Hun" everyone and be a little too intrusive for my taste, but I still go.

I begin a serious Weight Loss effort on Monday.  That's when I get really serious in my efforts and stop trying to sabotage myself.  I'm hoping Curves helps me begin and continue a serious and lifelong excercize habit.  Looking forward to getting some ideas and motivation here.  Nice to meet you all.

hi. [Mar. 11th, 2009|03:03 pm]
hi ladies.
I just joined Curves with my friend, and I was wondering if anyone could give me tips.
I really enjoy going and working out,but I am having a hard time giving up the "bad stuff".
I am motivated,or otherwise I wouldn't go.
The little old ladies that gives it their all is what makes me want to exercise more.
Any tips are helpful.

staying motivated... [Feb. 5th, 2008|09:47 pm]

hey ladies,
I am having a really hard time staying motivated about going to curves. Any tips?
I am going to try going BEFORE work instead of after...but that is at 6 AM.

Would it be frowned upon if I brought my mp3 player to listen to?

Questions! [Jan. 8th, 2008|09:57 pm]

I know these questions probably have been asked before, but... I'd love to know any and all opinions on the matter:

I am getting married in May 2008 and then promptly going to Hawaii... My mom and I want to join curves and work out together. I am severely obese (or so says the doctor). I am not shy to admit it but I am five foot four at 240lbs. I would LOVE to lose at least 20 to 30 pounds before May, though I understand that inches are far easier to lose than pounds -- my body typically creates muscle pretty easily with my hormone problem (which of course weighs more than fat). I once was a member of the YMCA nearby and I did an aerobics work out every other day and then swam up to 36+ laps after each aerobic class -- though I swam EVERY day for two months only losing ten pounds (again, PCOS makes me slow at losing weight, even with a diet and a consistent work out).

My question is: to get back on the "horse" so to speak, is Curves right for me? I would like to do the YMCA again to swim (my favorite thing to do, I used to swim when I was younger for YMCA), but at my weight I will say I am quite ashamed to get into a bathing suit again and swim... at least not until I can lose some first.

I want to go to a place where women are the only members. I absolutely feel ashamed to go to a co-ed gym right now... I know that sounds silly, but I feel much more comfy around women until I lose some weight.

Possibly joining... some questions for ya'll.... [Dec. 4th, 2007|04:34 pm]

So about a year ago a Curves gym opened up right down the street from my house, like 30 seconds away and ever since then I've been considering joining. But here's the deal... I'm 20, a full time student who works part time and makes 200 dollars a month (which after gas, school stuff, and other expenses doesn't leave much) I called today to ask about prices and such and they told me there was an initiation fee of $75 and then it was $34 a month. It doesn't sound like much but to me it would be taking a chunk of my check every month.

So here is my question... would going 3 times a week be worth spending the money? I guess I'm asking what kind of results you guys have had, and how many days a week you went to get those results. Here are my stats so you get a feel of where I am...

Age: 20
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 164
Goal weight: 130

In high school I was in the 135-140 range so I'd like to get back to that range. My ultimate goal would be losing about 5-10 pounds a month, so I could reach my goal weight in 3-6 months. Is that reasonable to you guys?

I would be doing the Curves workout 3 times a week and also making better decisions when it comes to food. Let's face it people, we live in a fast food generation and my family eats far too much fast food/pizza/chinese leaving a home-cooked meal maybe once a week. My energy level is low, I'm tired all the time, and it sometimes affects my studies and grades. I've heard so much about Curves lately, and I drive by it every single day and I'd just like you're honest advice and information. I'd really appreciate it!!! Thanks in advance!

(no subject) [Aug. 20th, 2007|06:32 pm]

Hello :3

I'm Kim from Louisville, KY. There's a Curves just up the road from me, and I've been thinking about joining. I've never been able to find a price list for membership, though, and no one seems to be able or willing to clue me in!

So what's the mystery? Are rates different at every location, or something?

New . . . ish. [Jun. 18th, 2007|06:02 pm]

I joined this community actually about a month ago planning on joining Curves that day.  But I decided instead to move and have been in the process of getting settled in my new town, Tucson AZ! :D  Sunday a friend and I signed up at Curves and will be going Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.  So tomorrow's officially my first day!  I'm really looking forward to it.  I'm currently exactly 200 pounds and at 5'2" that's quite a bit more than is healthy.  And the main reason that's a problem . . . I wanna enlist in the Navy!!!  So I'm dieting and losing the weight to make that goal happen for me and I'm glad to be able to make Curves a part of my plan to do so.

If anyone's ever up for a read check out my LJ which is entirely dedicated to my weight-loss/Navy goals.  I really love getting comments, it keeps me motivated! :D

new [Jun. 17th, 2007|09:06 pm]

[mood |goodgood]

Hi everyone! My name is Kelly, I'm 19, and just joined my local Curves about a week ago. I live just outside of Philly, so hello to any potential neighbors here on LJ. I don't have any problems with my body or how I look; I joined to feel like less of a bum and to have more consistency with my activity... and for health reasons, of course. At 5'1 and 145, I probably could stand to lose a bit of weight, but if it doesn't happen, I won't stress about it. Right now I'm watching Celebrity Fit Club on VH1 and it's making me miss Curves. I haven't gone since Thursday, so I will tomorrow morning. Happy exercising, ladies! Wee!
